Agape Clinic was founded on the vision of Dr. Barbara Baxter, who sought to create a space where vulnerable individuals could access essential healthcare services with dignity and compassion. What began modestly in August 1983, in a basement closet at Grace United Methodist Church, as a one-day-a-week Saturday clinic for those with limited access to medical services, quickly grew into a vital resource for the Dallas community.

By 2000, through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Dallas County Health, LabCorp, Americares, Direct Relief, and Baylor Community Care, Agape expanded into a four-day-a-week clinic—significantly increasing its reach and impact.

From 2010 to 2020, Agape was shaped and led by Executive Director Stephanie Bohan, whose decade of visionary leadership strengthened Agape’s foundation and broadened its scope of service. Under her guidance, the clinic deepened its community partnerships, expanded its volunteer provider network, and laid the groundwork for the integrated model that continues to guide Agape today.
In October 2015, with the incredible support of the David M. Crowley Foundation, Agape purchased a new 10,000-square-foot building across the street from Grace UMC, enabling expanded services six days a week, with an immigrant and refugee health program offered on Sundays—making care available seven days a week.
Our current facility includes 13 medical examination rooms, seven fully equipped dental suites, and a multipurpose medical space. In 2016, Texas A&M College of Dentistry (TAMCOD) began providing episodic dental care, marking the beginning of Agape’s growing dental program.

In 2021, Paul R. Hoffmann became Executive Director, further leading Agape into a new era of growth, integration, and innovation. Under his leadership, Agape’s nationally unique model took full shape—transforming into a comprehensive, family-centered, integrated healthcare home beginning with women’s health services. By 2022, pediatric care and behavioral healthcare were added, with the multipurpose clinic space redesigned to serve children and families.

Although dental services were temporarily paused in May 2022 following the conclusion of the TAMCOD partnership, the generosity of an Anonymous Family Foundation and other private supporters, including the Hillcrest Foundation, Hoblitzelle Foundation, and David M. Crowley Foundation, enabled the establishment of an in-house Agape Dental Clinic. Complete dental services resumed in June 2024, solidifying Agape as a true Health Home, integrating full-spectrum medical, behavioral health, pediatric, and dental services under one roof.

In 2025, Agape further strengthened its holistic approach by incorporating nutrition services through a licensed dietitian. Today, medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition, and specialty providers—including ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, allergy, and asthma—collaborate to ensure that every patient receives a personalized care plan addressing the whole person.

What truly sets Agape apart is its unique funding model: Comprehensive Care Powered By Donations, Where Every Gift Becomes Healing. Agape Clinic does not charge for services, require insurance, use sliding fee scales, or impose enrollment or zip code restrictions. Every patient is welcomed without condition, and care is provided regardless of a person’s ability to pay. This compassionate, donor-powered approach removes barriers to care and ensures culturally competent, dignified healthcare for all who walk through Agape’s doors.
